Chris Pine will star as Jack Ryan in winter or early spring

Posted in Headlines & Rumors, Untitled Jack Ryan Project

Notice any big franchise titles missing from the summer box office?

Remember novelist Tom Clancy’s character Jack Ryan?

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura reveals that Jack Ryan will return before the cameras in “Moscow” in either late winter or early spring. Chris Pine of “Star Trek” fame is expected to fill the shoes of Ryan who has been played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck in the past.

“Moscow” isn’t based on any of the Clancy novels. Plot follows Ryan, just out of the Marines, before he joins the C.I.A., working as a financial advisor to a Russian billionaire.

Ryan gets framed and must clear his name while rescuing his wife. No director has been attached at this time.

The last Jack Ryan title starring Ben Affleck, “The Sum of All Fears,” made $118.9 million at the summer box office in 2002.

Chris Pine’s Jack Ryan titled ‘Moscow’

Posted in Headlines & Rumors, Untitled Jack Ryan Project

The new Jack Ryan adventure seems to be picking up steam, it was reported a while ago that ‘Star Trek’ star Chris Pine would be the new Jack Ryan taking on the role after Alec Baldwin played the Tom Clancy hero in ‘The Hunt for Red October’ and more famously by Harrison Ford in Philip Noyce’s ‘Patriot Games’ and ‘Clear and Present Danger’ and most-recently by Ben Affleck in ‘The Sum of All Fears’ directed by Phil Alden Robinson.

The new film carries the title ‘Moscow’ could be a prequel following Jack Ryan just out of the Marines, before he joins the CIA, working as a financial consultant for a Russian billionaire. He gets framed in a terrorist plot, and has to go on the run to clear his name and rescue his kidnapped wife. “We have a very good script and I’m very happy with where we are today” Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura promises.

The film is written by Hossein Amini and Adam Cozad, and will go into production later this year or early next year and is not based on any of Clancy’s remaining unfilmed Ryan novels.

am Worthington may go to war with Chris Pine (in something other than your best dream)

If Vulture’s intel is correct, Sam Worthington has a difficult decision to make. So let’s help him with a PopWatch poll. Word is, the Avatar star has been offered a role in the long bandied about Fox film This Means War opposite Star Trek’s Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon. He and Pine would play “best friends and veteran spies who wage black-ops warfare on each other when they both fall for the same girl.” Worthington has also reportedly been offered a role in Summit’s Man on a Ledge, in which he would star as “an ex-cop threatening to jump to his death from a Manhattan hotel rooftop; unbeknownst to the police psychologists brought in to talk him down, the ‘suicide attempt’ is a cover for the biggest diamond heist ever attempted.” If he accepts the latter, Fox might have to move on to another actor (i.e. Colin Farrell).

Assuming he does have to choose between them, which movie would you tell Worthington to sign on for? His name has been attached to a series of heavy films — The Fields, The Candidate, The Last Days of American Crime, Dracula: Year Zero — so even though the plot of Man on a Ledge sounds more interesting, I’d vote This Means War. He needs to show, in something other than talk show interviews, that he can loosen up and have fun. I think his rough exterior would be a good contrast to Pine’s smooth one. And that movie poster would be really, really hot.
