Notice any big franchise titles missing from the summer box office?
Remember novelist Tom Clancy’s character Jack Ryan?
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura reveals that Jack Ryan will return before the cameras in “Moscow” in either late winter or early spring. Chris Pine of “Star Trek” fame is expected to fill the shoes of Ryan who has been played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck in the past.
“Moscow” isn’t based on any of the Clancy novels. Plot follows Ryan, just out of the Marines, before he joins the C.I.A., working as a financial advisor to a Russian billionaire.
Ryan gets framed and must clear his name while rescuing his wife. No director has been attached at this time.
The last Jack Ryan title starring Ben Affleck, “The Sum of All Fears,” made $118.9 million at the summer box office in 2002.

Chris Pine’s Jack Ryan titled ‘Moscow’
July 9, 2010 | Listed Under: Headlines & Rumors, Untitled Jack Ryan Project
The new Jack Ryan adventure seems to be picking up steam, it was reported a while ago that ‘Star Trek’ star Chris Pine would be the new Jack Ryan taking on the role after Alec Baldwin played the Tom Clancy hero in ‘The Hunt for Red October’ and more famously by Harrison Ford in Philip Noyce’s ‘Patriot Games’ and ‘Clear and Present Danger’ and most-recently by Ben Affleck in ‘The Sum of All Fears’ directed by Phil Alden Robinson.
The new film carries the title ‘Moscow’ could be a prequel following Jack Ryan just out of the Marines, before he joins the CIA, working as a financial consultant for a Russian billionaire. He gets framed in a terrorist plot, and has to go on the run to clear his name and rescue his kidnapped wife. “We have a very good script and I’m very happy with where we are today” Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura promises.
The film is written by Hossein Amini and Adam Cozad, and will go into production later this year or early next year and is not based on any of Clancy’s remaining unfilmed Ryan novels.

New Jack Ryan Movie Will Put Chris Pine In Moscow
April 12, 2010 | Listed Under: Headlines & Rumors, Untitled Jack Ryan Project
Jack Ryan, the hero of The Hunt For Red October and Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger and that forgettable Ben Affleck one, is supposed to be an unstoppable CIA agent and a straight-up hero. So how does working on Wall Street fit into that? Apparently a career as a financial analyst was a major part of the character’s backstory in the Tom Clancy novels, and according to Pajiba, that’s going to be coming back into play in the new, Chris Pine-starring franchise reboot.
They’ve gotten a tip that the new script picks up with a younger Jack Ryan just after his stint in the Marines, when he’s working as a Wall Street stock broker transplanted to Moscow to work for a billionaire. In fact, the movie’s working title is Moscow, and the action takes place there when Ryan is set up as the fall guy in a plot to destroy the U.S. economy.
Clearly the new film would have to move away from the 80s/90s Cold War plots of the first films, but it is kind of hilarious to have Ryan on Wall Street, which somehow feels like another kind of 80s throwback. Of course, the notion of economic terrorism is very, very modern, as are our fears of Russia not as a nuclear powerhouse, but as a rising economy. Sounds like they’ve come up with a way to update Jack Ryan for a new decade, while still allowing us to fear those dirty Muscovites.
